Review: MAC Prolong SPF10 Foundation

Foundation, foundation, foundation. This word used to scary me. Confusingly enough my skin is dry and yet prone to acne. On the top of that, it literally refuses anything on my face for over two hours. Literally. My go to foundation used to be No7 Stay Perfect Liquid foundation – it’s the perfect match for any skin colour – and I still swear by it, nevertheless after few hours of wearing it, it would “cake” on my skin (as many others I’ve tried) and I would have to do big retouches during my lunch break – not how I envision my breaks!

So it comes to no surprise, I had to find a new foundation that would achieve my high expectations. I went around Boots and Debenhams, tried quite a few samples and talked to quite a few specialists. At the end I’ve settled for MAC Prolong SPF10 Foundation as it was reasonable for a price and score 10 out of 10. Keep reading if you want to know why!

Texture & Colour:
Texture of this product is amazing. It promises to stay on the throughout the day and for this I would expect it to be thick, but no, the product is nice, silky and smooth. What I really really really like about this MAC Prolong SPF10 Foundation (and I can’t stress this enough) is how perfectly it blends! It is also oil free for the perfect flawless finish whilst keeping any shine or oiliness at bay. Big YAY from me!

The first shade I bought was NW18, purchased last summer and has warm tones to it so it was ideal for my summer tanned skin. This winter I’ve been using NW20, that has cooler tones to it.

What is worth mentioning, ladies, this foundation has a strong pigmentation and it will stain just about anything. So be careful,
especially around whites, as I’ve learned the hard way (stained my pink blouse and a white skirt in one go). Usually
few washes and a good soak in vanish will do but the pink blouses
is marked for the rest of its fashion life (didn’t wash it straight away).

Application:
Application is very smooth. I have mild acne, and I have to only use half of what I would normally have to use with any other foundation and yet still achieve the perfect coverage. And I really mean it. The coverage you can achieve is medium to high. To finish my look of, I use MAC face powder Mineralize Skinfinish Natural.

Price: The foundation is a bit pricey, coming at £25 per 30ml bottle. Nevertheless, it’s worth the money as I my first bottle lasted for about 6-7 months while using it every day and I’ve only just had to buy a new one. So, if you think about it, ladies, it’s only below £4 a month and that’s a price I can live with that, knowing I’m getting the value. I spend three times more on a coffee during the week!

Conclusion:
All in all, I am very dependent on a good coverage and a foundation that lasts all
day. There are days when I’m too busy at work and I don’t get a chance to have a proper lunch let
alone go to retouch my make up! Hence prolonged wear is a must for me and MAC Prolong SPF10 Foundation ticks all the right boxes for me!

Great way of reviewing foundation – I love how you categorised it into sections! I've never tried a MAC foundation but I love the Pro Longwear Concealer – it works wonders on hiding blemishes! Will definitely be swatching this next time I'm at a counter as I have dry skin too!
