I’ve recently been invited to a fashion event in Leeds, organised by M&S. As someone who adores their fashion, style, quality and their brand values, it would have been hard to miss. I just had to be there and believe me, it was worth it. The event, Dressed In Time, walked us through different times of M&S history, through from the early 1930s right through to the present day!
Did you know that M&S opened its first store here in Leeds market?! Yes indeed and what is more, the store is still there. Even though it’s only tiny, you can still be taken back to its original days and feel the breeze of history.
As soon as you entered the building, you’ll find yourself surrounded by expositions taking you back in time, displaying different garments taken right from the M&S history. And all that came to life on the day!
The outfits and accessories that were seen on the catwalk were
replica of vintage items from M&S handling collection. Ladies on the catwalk were strutting in outfits from the 1930s right through to the present day. You could see fascinating 1930s leisure wear and joyous 1950s prints.
I was entirely absorbed by their splendid catwalk collection, let’s take a walk with me!
1970s fashion made very impactful statement and is still influencing designers all over the world even nowadays. Fabrics were famous for its vibrant patterns or psychedelic florals. We are all smittened by wide collars, flared trousers and elegant maxi dresses that were so typical for this time.

What would be your favourite M&S period in terms of fashion and style? For me, I would certainly be interested most in 1960s as i adore the smartly tailored skirt suits and mini dresses. Although, fashion during the second world war, in the 1940s, was very pretty given the circumstances.
