What to wear to a horse racing event? The races are here and the right horse racing outfit dilemma is upon us once again, with a long summer of outdoor occasion dressing ahead of us.
For the day full of races and fun, I’ve decided to go for colour blocking in the form of light pink and dark blue. There were times I wouldn’t even touch anything pink, I used to be a hard rocker, clubbing with rockers and punks and soending my weekends travelling around on a motorbike with my mates. Oh how times change!
Now, I would like to think of me as more of a lady. Whilst it’s not always the case, old habits die hard, I tend to reach out for more sophisticated fashion.
Getting my outfit for the races together was one crazy story. My dearest husband decided to let me know that we were going on a Friday morning, only 24 hours before we were meant to set off. although my wardrobe is pretty extensive, it’s not like I store hundreds of outfits to races in my wardrobe, is it?! Let alone matching fascinators, hats or clutches. Thank you very much, dear hubby! Fortunately I only recently got this WearCecily pink dress, as seen on Holly Willoughby (see on her instagram)! I adore this mid-length dress, especially its asymmetrical neckline.
My fascinator and the clutch are pieces I got a year or two ago and I’m very fond of them. I feel very sentimental every time I wear them. Why do you ask? Both pieces are from BHS and I used to love this shop.
It was last year, early spring, when we also went to watch horse racing and as always, also a very last minute decision.
I made a panic run into town during my lunch at work, as you do. I run straight to BHS as I knew they used to have pretty selection of fascinators and actually got a very elegant clutch too. Honetstly, I haven’t seen prettier things, so I had to get them both. BHS actually used to be my shop to go when it came to fancy dresses and fascinator, I was truly sad to see this franchise closed down.
Whilst horse racing style has evolved so much over the years, there is one statement piece that remains the same. The hat. The ultimate statement piece for any horse racing that will surely make you stand out.
I, for one, have decided to keep it simple(ish) and went for a fascinator. Slightly bigger in proportion than the classic ones but then why the hell not. Whilst I don’t particularly tend to “stand out” I don’t like to be the GREY MOUSE either. Fascinators or hats are so much fun to wear but most of all they transfer any look into a classy and elegant horse racing outfit.
I did enjoy dressing up for this special occasion and I very much loved spending my time with friends, whilst sipping on a glass of bubbly watching horses race and even occasionally bet on a horse with the fanciest name. Funnily enough, the one that won me some monies was on a pink horse with a name I cannot remember.
The York Horse races were my second time I’ve attended this very posh event. The first time was at The Thirsk races, that I attended with some of my blogging friends and I have to say, it was fab! You can read about my experience here.
Have you attended any horse racing this year? What was your horse racing outfit of the choice? But most of all, did you have fun, ladies?
